Athletes aged 8 to 18 as of December 31^st of the current season are eligible to register for this program.

• U14 - Athletes aged 12 and 13 as of December 31st of the current season.
• U16 - Athletes aged 14 and 15 as of December 31st of the current season.
• U19 - Athletes aged 16, 17, and 18 as of December 31st of the current year.

• U10 - Athletes aged 8 and 9 as of December 31st of the current season.
• U12 - Athletes aged 10 and 11 as of December 31st of the current season.

Athletes must be able to ski confidently on Advanced/Black runs. Previous experience with ski racing is recommended.

U10/U12 skiers must be invited to join the team by the head coach.

All U14+ athletes are required by AOA to submit a fitness testing record to participate in regional races. Our club does the fitness testing at the end of dryland training in November and submits the result to AOA on behalf of the athletes.

During the regular season (12 weeks January – March) the Ski-for-Life program includes:

• Two weekday evenings (6 pm -9 pm) on Wednesdays and Thursdays at Laurentian Ski Hill; and
• Both Saturdays and Sundays (9 am -3 pm) at Antoine Mountain.

Laurentian Classic: This is our local U8-U12 race at the Laurentian Ski Hill.

• All U12 athletes are encouraged to participate in this race, and registration is included in their fees. 

Home Hardware Classic: This is our local U14/U16 race held at Antoine Mountain.

• All U14-U19+ athletes are encouraged to participate in this race and registration is included in their fees.
• U12 athletes have the option of participating in this race to gain additional event experience.

All Ski-for-Life athletes are encouraged to participate in at least one out-of-town Northern Ontario Division race. In typical years, for U14+ athletes races are held at Searchmont and in Timmins. For U12 athletes, races at held in Elliot Lake and Searchmont.

Information about all races will be communicated throughout the season.

All athletes are required to be registered with Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) and Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA). Athletes are not permitted to participate in on-snow or dryland training until this fee has been paid.

Registration and payment are completed through SnowReg. Athletes must be registered in their corresponding age category. Athletes who are 6 years old as of January wishing to attend out-of-town races must select the 'traveling' membership.

Typically North Bay Ski Team athletes will hold a season pass at both Laurentian Ski Hill and Antoine Mountain.

Below is a description of what equipment is required and what is recommended.

If your athlete already has equipment, it is not always necessary to replace it. Our coaching staff can advise when your athlete has progressed to requiring race-specific equipment. Our club also hosts a ski equipment exchange every year in November and we would be happy to help you find equipment at this event.

• Helmets are required for all on-snow training. U10/U12 athletes are required to wear race-specific helmet with hard-ear guards.
• For U14+ athletes, a FIS-approved helmet with hard-ear guards is required.
• For U10/U12 athletes:
  • Either one pair of skis (ideally a slalom ski or a race-specific combination ski) or two pairs of skis (1 GS and 1 slalom), depending on athlete interest and ability. Coaches can assist in picking the best skis for your athlete.
  • 4-buckle ski boot, as long as sizing permits.
  • At least one set of poles.
  • Note: Speed suits are not permitted for U10 athletes. 
• For U14 athletes:
  • One pair of SL skis and one pair of GS skis are required.
  • Race-specific ski boots
  • At least one set of poles, however, most athletes have separate slalom and GS poles.
• For U16+ athletes:
  • One pair of SL skis and one pair of GS skis are recommended. Athletes should speak to their coach to see if SG skis are recommended.
  • Race-specific ski boots
  • At least one set of poles, however, most athletes have separate slalom and GS poles.
• Speed suits are required for all U12+ athletes.
• A slalom chin guard, shin and pole guards, and back protection are recommended.

NBSRC is committed to keeping the cost of the extra program options as low as possible while covering our coaching costs. Actual prices will be released once we have estimated the number of participants.

Volunteers are essential to the functioning of our club.

We are a not-for-profit, parent-run organization and volunteers are necessary to keep our programming costs as low as possible and to ensure our programs and events run smoothly. Volunteering is also an excellent way for parents to socialize and feel a sense of belonging to our NBSRC community!

While there is no set volunteer commitment, it is expected that parents of all racers will volunteer throughout the year. There are many volunteer opportunities available, regardless of your skill, experience, or time availability.
