Skier Essentials

Having fun while developing technical skiing skills in structured and unstructured environments.  This could include practicing good edging control and pole planting, working toward linking turns on steeper terrain with varied conditions, and skiing brush courses and bumps.

Poles are required and children must be able to confidently ski independently with assistance (if required) boarding the lift.

One in-house race is included in registration, athletes have the option to participate in 2-3 out of town races with the team.

Skier Essentials

Beginners welcome, must be able to ski independently and board the lift. 

Building stronger technical skiers in a fun environment on varied terrain and in a competition environment.   

 This will include fundamental movement, skill development and gate training and will follow the guidelines set out in Alpine Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) pathway, including the Skier Essentials and Learn to Train stages.

One in-house race is included in registration, athletes have the option to participate in 2-3 out of town races with the team.

Learn to Train

This is a race-focused group, maximizing time on snow, gate training in U12 and U14 environments, technical skills development. Pre-season camp is reccomended.

Advancing technical skiing skills while having fun in a variety of competition environments including slalom and giant slalom.  This could mean focusing on fundamental movement, skill development, gate training and terrain features.

This program aligns with the guidelines of Alpine Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) pathway, focused on the Learn to Train stage.

Athletes will be invited to participate in three Northern Ontario Division Races.  There is an option to participate in additional Southern Ontario Division races (club invitation). All races are optional and attendees split the coaches cost.

Train to Train

Competitive race focused training with our PL-trained head coach.

Focused on transferring fundamental techniques and technical skills into a competitive setting.

Comfortable in a variety of competition event types.

Race Fees

The out of town races are and additional cost. Athletes will have to pay a race fee to enter the race (~$120), pay for lift tickets (~$80/day) and share the cost of the coach’s expenses (travel, food, hotel) with all athletes who attend. 

There will be coaching at home during the planned races for athletes who do not attend.

Pre-Season Camps

Alberta – Nov 20-28

NBSRC is teaming up with other NOD clubs for a pre-season camp in Alberta. This camp is open to all athletes and a parent will need to attend. The athletes will be staying in Banff and skiing at Sunshine and Lake Louise (depending on conditions) the purpose of the camp is to free-ski as many runs as possible through different terrain. An NBSRC coach will be in attendance. 

Tremblant – Dec 14-18

NBSRC is teaming up again with other NOD clubs for a second pre-season camp at Mt Tremblant. If it’s your first time on snow, the focus will be on free-skiing as many runs as possible. If you attended the Alberta camp there will be gate training and drills in addition to free-skiing.

Christmas Camp

NBSRC will be hosting a Christmas camp over the break (dates TBC). Cost is $25/day drop-in (choose any days).
